We often get asked whats involved so we thought it would be a great idea to share the 12 steps and answer some of the questions you might have!
The process of getting solar:
- Arrange for a site inspection with CTI Solar.
- After an initial discussion over the phone CTI Solar will visit your property to measure up the available roof space and check the meter panel and switchboard.
- CTI Solar will then provide a quote based on the desired outcome of the customer, this will determine the size of the system eg 6.6kw which is the most common for
- Once the customer is happy to go ahead a 10 day cooling off period begins from the day of signing up.
- CTI Solar will then submit a SEG (small embedded generator) application to SA Power Networks for approval, this is usually approved within 24 hrs.
- Once approved CTI Solar will ask for a 10% deposit, once received an installation date will be scheduled.
- If the meter panel contains any asbestos, this will need to be replaced and can be done by CTI Solar. This is a requirement of the meter installation contractor regarding asbestos. CTI Solar will make the necessary arrangement to make this happen.
- If the any work needs to be done, eg installation of meter isolator, to the switchboard as determined during the site inspection and agreed on by the customer, CTI Solar will also complete this work.
- The customer will need to contact their electricity retailer to arrange for a smart meter to be installed to replace any existing electricity meters, the smart meter is required to be installed to neasure solar power exported into the grid. The cost of this meter is billed direct to the customer by the retailer and can be up to $300, check with retailer for exact amount.
- Once the installation date arrives, the installation will be completed in 1 to 2 days depending on weather conditions. If the smart meter hasn’t been installed by the meter installation contractor the solar system will be turned on briefly to commission and test then turned off until the smart meter is installed. If the smart meter is installed the solar system can remain on.
- CTI Solar will present to the customer a Certificate of compliance, datasheets on Inverter and solar panels, commissioning sheets, warranty documentation, an Invoice, recommended maintenance schedule.
- Congratulations you will now be receiving free power from the sun.
